Overview
Premagic is standardizing how long face-search data is kept to a single 45-day window across all events. Once a gallery's photos have been live for 45 days, the underlying face-matching data is automatically cleared.
This is a background change to how we handle data. Your photos and galleries are not affected, and face search keeps working the way you expect. There is nothing you need to do.
What Is Changing
- Face-search data is now retained for a standard 45 days from when a gallery's photos go live.
- This applies going forward to all events, including any that previously ran on a longer retention period (such as one year).
- After 45 days, the face-matching data behind a gallery is automatically cleared.
What Is Not Changing
- Your photos and galleries are safe. They are not deleted and stay live as always. Photos remain on our cloud.
- Face search works exactly as today within the 45-day window.
- Attendees who have already found their photos through face search keep their access. Their existing gallery link continues to work.
Only the AI face-matching data has a retention limit. The photos themselves do not.
What Happens After 45 Days
After the 45-day window, the AI face detection for that gallery stops. In practice:
- An attendee who already scanned and received their photos can still open and use their gallery link.
- A new attendee who tries face search for the first time after 45 days will not get results, because the face-matching data has been cleared.
So face search stays fully available during the period when it's actually used, and only new face-search registrations are affected once the window closes.
Why We're Doing This
Face-matching data is biometric data, and cleaner handling of it is better for everyone. GDPR's data minimization principle asks that data like this is kept only as long as it's genuinely in use. Face search is overwhelmingly used in the days right after an event, so 45 days covers normal use comfortably while keeping our data footprint tight.
If You Need Face Search Beyond 45 Days
You stay in control. If an event needs face search available for longer, you can:
- Re-enable it from your dashboard, or
- Reach out to Premagic support and we'll set it up for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this mean you no longer keep the photos for a year?
No. Photos and galleries are not deleted and are not on a 45-day clock. They stay live as always. The 45-day window applies only to the AI face-matching data used for face search, not to your photos.
Will the guest gallery link stop working after 45 days?
For attendees who already used face search to find their photos, the link keeps working. Only new face-search attempts after 45 days won't return results, because the face-matching data has been cleared.
An attendee scanned their face during the event. Can they still access photos later?
Yes. Anyone who already matched and received their photos keeps access to their gallery. The 45-day limit only affects new face-search registrations.
What about attendees who never scanned?
If someone tries face search for the first time after the 45-day window has closed, they won't get results. You can re-enable face search for that event from your dashboard, or contact support, and they'll be able to use it again.
Do I need to do anything?
No. This is an automatic, background improvement to how we handle data. Face search keeps working the way you expect on all your events.
